Marden in Bloom

Marden in Bloom are so grateful to those businesses who generously sponsored us earlier this year which enabled us to replant the planters in the village this Autumn and purchase over 5,000 bulbs! We have placed plaques in the planters listing those businesses who kindly donated.

To continue with our project, we have to hold fund-raising events or rely on donations, so any help would be wonderful. Community engagement is our motto.

Support Medical Detection Dogs

During the MBF’s Event at Pattenden Vetinary Clinic we were treated to a short talk by Bridget Wood on Medical Detection Dogs.

How amazing is the work being done by them to save lives and also the research that is trying to artificially mimic the “nose” to detect various cancers.

Thank you Bridget.

If anyone would like to contact Bridget to either donate to her new puppy or just to learn more about this incredible charity, please email her: Bridgetwood2011@gmail.com

Host your own MBF event?

The Marden Business Forum would like to invite you to host an event at your premises.  This is a chance to tell the story of your success, perhaps a factory/workshop tour, a ‘have a go’ or tasting, followed by buffet food and drinks.

The Business Forum have a budget for each event which we will give you to help with costs.  The average attendance is between 30-40 people but numbers can be limited dependant on the size of your premises.

Our Visit to Pattenden Veterinary Clinic
On Monday 29th October the Marden Business Forum were delighted to visit a new member of our business community & already highly valued addition to the Marden Community as a whole.

Pattenden Veterinary Clinic is a state of the art practice, thanks in no small way to their close working relationship with neighbors Burtons Medical Equipment Ltd. – the UK`s largest supplier of Veterinary Equipment.

David Burton was in attendance, with his son Matt, to support Lara Hummel, Tori Jordan & Janet Clark proudly showing the gleaming facility to a large group of forum members.

Janet is the practice`s Administrator whilst Lara and Tori are your new friendly practicing Vets. All three have enjoyed an established working relationship for several years before deciding to set up an Independent practice in Marden.

Since opening in May this year the practice already boasts nearly 600 clients, mainly dealing with dogs and cats but a few other household pets and chickens along the way.

We wish Lara, Tori and Janet all the best for a long and successful future and thank them wholeheartedly for hosting a highly enjoyable & social event.

Marden Theatre Group: Inspector Drake’s Last Case

Marden Theatre Group’s next production will be Inspector Drake’s Last Case with performances at the end of October in the Marden Memorial Hall.

Standby for the ultimate Agatha Christie spoof, as Inspector Drake, ably hampered by Sergeant Plod, interviews a colourful confusion of characters. David Tristram’s first-ever play is riotous fun from opening curtain to outlandish denouement.

“SENSATIONAL COMEDY WHODUNIT!”

No one could have foreseen the strange events that took place one dark evening at the home of Mrs Gagarin. We see her taking a stroll. Next she screams, “Who is it? Oh, it’s you!” Next a gunshot! It’s up to the world’s greatest detective to solve the crime. But, in the words of Sergeant Plod, “don’t believe everything you see …”.

Come and see Marden Theatre Group create this fantastically entertaining play. Email us at info@mardentheatregroup.co.uk with any queries.

Tickets can be purchased from local businesses and also online (booking fee applies). Here is our Eventbrite page for online tickets.

Turners Cider – Best Kent Cider Award 2018

Kent craft cider business, TURNERS CIDER, based near Maidstone, has won the prestigious Kent Cider or Perry of the Year award for their Elderflower Cider.

Turners Cider, a family-run business, situated on an apple farm in Marden, just south of Maidstone, has scooped the top award at the Taste of Kent Awards. The awards, hosted by Produced in Kent, showcase the best of the county’s food and drinks industry. Turners had already been shortlisted in the top three after a public vote and were delighted when the Produced in Kent judges deemed them the best of the best.

The awards took place at the Kent County Showground, Detling, on 8th March 2018 with a gala dinner and ceremony. The award for Best Cider or Perry of the Year was sponsored by Wilkins Kennedy LLP.

Director of the company Phil Turner said he was delighted to win the award: “We work hard to preserve the calibre of our craft cider and we are proud that this has been recognised and pleased that so many people are enjoying our ciders across Kent and beyond. Winning this award is a real accolade for Turners Cider, but it also really helps to put the high quality cider that we produce in Kent on the UK cider map.”

Stephanie Durling at Produced in Kent said: “Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists. They should be thrilled at making it through to the final phase, as the results are always close and the judging is difficult as the standards are so high. The winners have however shone above the competition to be named the tastiest or the best. For the winners, these awards are the ultimate accolade from their customers and confirmation of their food and drink excellence.”

Turners Cider makes cider in a traditional way. They use a variety of dessert and culinary apples grown locally and produce a wide range of craft ciders. The ciders are made with 100% Kent apples and use no concentrate, no artificial flavourings, colourings or additives.

Their Elderflower Cider has already been recognised as a top cider, winning a Silver Award at the British Cider Championships in 2017 at the Bath & West Show, Somerset.

Turners Cider is stocked across Kent, Sussex and London and online. Please visit our website. If you would like to become a stockist, please contact us below for more information:

PRESS RELEASE – Issued:  21 March 2018

Marden History Group – Victim of our own success

As can be seen by visiting the Marden History Group website, the Marden Heritage Centre has landed national awards for the work done by our volunteers but, as more and more important artefacts and documents are discovered and donated by local residents, storage space inevitably becomes a major problem.

Although aware that major space saving could be achieved by digitalising our many thousands of documents, this expensive exercise has been beyond the group’s meagre financial resources. However, as part of their Centenary Celebrations Project, Paddock Wood Lions have made the generous donation of £200, specifically to launch the Marden History Group’s fund raising appeal. Marden businesses have also chipped in towards the the total of £1,500 needed.
If any other Forum members would like to contribute, this would enable digitalisation to be undertaken as soon as possible.

Attached is a photo of the presentation of the £200 cheque by Paddock Wood Lion, Rod Easter, to Eunice Doswell, Vice Chair of Marden History Group.
