What Marden Does Best Support

After our initial e-mail regarding possible donations or raffle prizes from local businesses. We have only had 1 kind response to donate £30.
NFU Mutual have kindly offered to not charge us for the Public Liability Insurance but this has come via a couple of personnel meetings. This is a massive help as it was about a third of our costs for the day.

We have spent a lot of time and effort putting together what we hope will be a great community event. As the name of the day suggests we are proud of our village and are trying to showcase the many varied things we have to offer, many of the stall holders have surprised us as to what they do.

Also if any of your members have any covers for electric cables suitable for laying on the floor could they contact us and we will arrange to collect them for use on the day.

Any help will be gratefully received and the business is welcome to have a banner or sign up on the day in our space reserved (which currently has plenty of space).

Kind Regards,
Chris

The Queens 90th Birthday Party

On the 23rd April, Marden will celebrate the Queens 90th Birthday from 12pm till 4pm at Southons Field Marden.

There will be the West Kent Big Band performing, BBQ, a Queen’s Portrait Competition (Children’s) and a Wheelbarrow Race.

“I would really like to get as many companies involved in the Wheelbarrow Race and engaged with the local community.  We are asking for teams of 3 people.  There will be a prize for Best Decorated Themed Wheelbarrow, Best Dressed Themed Team and Fastest Circuit around the course (each of the 3 people taking turns in the barrow for 3 laps).  I will be asking local companies to see if they can donate items for the course in exchange for an advertising PVC banner attached to the fencing.  Course will be cordoned off with Plastic Meshed Fencing and we will be creating chicanes with haystacks, we also want to build a ramp with some logs to create an obstacle.  I’m hoping some companies can donate this items (or let us borrow them!) in exchange for advertising on the day.  Each team will have to sign a disclaimer that they enter at their own risk!  All good It’s A Knockout kind of fun with the public cheering them on.” – Rachel Gillis-Coates

Further details to come.

Marden in Bloom – ‘Planting the Seed’!

A group of residents have recently come together to form a ‘Marden in Bloom’ Group which has the endorsement of the Parish Council and whose aim is to enhance the appearance of the village

The Group’s first step is to become a member of ‘Britain in Bloom‘, an organisation set up by the Royal Horticultural Society who get involved in various projects such as caring for local parks and squares, helping to establish school gardens and run wildlife projects.

The Group’s initial mission is to brighten up Marden by installing village planters/troughs, installing hanging baskets on lamp posts and encouraging residents and retailers to keep their frontages clean and tidy.  If successful this may encourage more visitors to our lovely village of Marden.

We will be contacting you again in the next month or two with some ideas about how you could help;  perhaps by sponsoring a planter, providing labour to install hanging baskets, Marden in Bloom signage, funding towards a Village Sculpture or bench outside the library depicting the history of Marden etc.

Thank you for your time and if you have any thoughts/ideas, please contact Anne Boswell.

Kind regards.
