Appeal from Marden Scouts

Dear Marden Busines Forum

As I’m sure you aware the Scout HQ is situated behind the the library in Marden Village.  The Scout was a redundant site hut and was donated to the Group in 1987!

Over recent years the Scout Groups membership has increased and so the Groups Executive committee have had to plan for future growth.  A major factor of our planning was to examine the Scout HQ and plan for required maintenance.  A retired surveyor generously gave his time and identified areas that would need addressing and repairs needed to be under taken and so working party weekends were arranged, the first of which was last Saturday.

Unfortunately our working party has uncovered that areas such as our soffets, fascia boards and all of windows on the south side of the building were beyond a “patch up” and would need a professional to look at.

On top of this revelation and probable dent in the Scout Groups funds, we suffered a break in on Sunday night / Monday morning, which has left us with a cut down chain link fence, smashed window and the loss of our large petrol Hayter mower.

I am therefore writing to yourselves to see if there are any of your members that could offer some assistance in some way or the other.  Please send any correspondence to 2 of our Executive Committee members,  ian.grimes01@btinternet.comamandacauser@talk21.com.

Many thanks

Marden Scouts

GREAT NEWS FOR MARDEN

On hearing that the production company “Hattrick” was looking for a location for a new TV series, written and staring Ben Miller (of Armstrong and Miller, Worse Week and Death in Paradise Fame, among many other achievements) which needed a village location with a Filling station, I contacted them and pitched Marden as a great location.

At the end of July, I hosted both the Production Manager and the Location Manager to a day in Marden, introduced them to all the other shop and inn keepers, walked everywhere including into our lovely Church, they loved it.

A “taster” show is now going to be filmed later this year, which, if successfully sold to TV, will lead to a series, with Marden featuring in all of them.

Lets hope it does for Marden what “Darling Buds of May” did for Pluckley!

I’ll keep you all posted as to how we progress.

Liz Stanley.

Marden Village Club — Quiz Night 3.8.2013

If anyone is interested in entering a team please can you contact Chris Barker at chb@operamail.com please?

“I have just discovered due to a lack of advertising, that we only have two teams entered for the Marden Village Club Quiz on August 3rd.  I wondered if you could flash an EMail through to all societies, organisations and other collections of people who you think might like to put a team together.  The charity supported by this and other events this year is for Dementia (I’ve forgotten the rest!) Unfortunately, due to the imminent occurence of this event, team names and a deposit of £5.00 per head have to be logged at the club by end of business on Friday 26th. July. Teams will be fed on the evening, a “Ploughmans supper” is supposedly threatened!  There will also be a raffle held, prizes having been donated by local businesses I am told. (Living on my spiral arm of the universe, I am kept somewhat in the dark (and cold)). I’m sorry for delivering this potential problem to your desk at such a late, date but any support would most definitely gratefully received.”

Facelift at Stanleys

On the first of May 2013, Stanleys changed supplier from Exxon Mobil (Esso) to Harvest Energy, who are the most pro-active retailers of fuel in the UK.

For those of you who have already seen our new image, I hope you like it and for those who haven’t yet been in, I look forward to welcoming you. [Read more…]
