*Total as of 29/09/2015

Cornwallis Academy Careers Assembly

We are Cornwallis Academy and we are situated in Linton on the way into Maidstone.  We are looking to engage with local businesses to help develop our student’s employability skills and to help us become aware of what local companies are looking for from young people.

Would any members of the Forum be prepared to come and talk to a year assembly about their business, career or work area.  We are running Careers Assemblies for the week of 16th November from 1.10 pm.  The talk would only need to be 10 minutes long. Do get in touch if you would be able to help.

We run many events with local employers and would be happy to come and talk to you about how we could work together.

Dr Nigel Minett – Charity Dinner – Raffle

Dr Nigel Minett, was a GP at Marden Medical Centre for over 20 years. He died 10 ½ weeks after being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in January 2012. He was 54.

Nigel’s daughter, Rebecca is organizing a Charity Dinner Dance in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK on November 28th at the London Beach Hotel in Tenterden. Such was Nigel’s popularity, the 100 tickets sold out in just over 24 hours.

Rebecca is hoping to run an auction and raffle on the night, and there must be many among our membership that remember Nigel, if anyone would like to donate an auction or raffle prize. Any such donations would of course be acknowledged in the programme.

Rebecca would also like to collect some memories/tributes to Nigel if anyone would like to contribute any comments – these are to be displayed at the Dinner Dance.

Pancreatic Cancer is known as ‘the silent killer’. In a recent survey, 71% of those asked could not name a single symptom of the disease which is rarely diagnosed until it is in an advanced stage. Unlike many other cancers, survival rates have not improved in 40 years – and only 3% of those diagnosed survive 5 years.

Rebecca has also set up a Just Giving page for the event which can be found at www.justgiving.com/charity-dinner-dance/

All best wishes
Kate Minett
