Local Marden-based distillery, Anno Distillers, has swapped spirits for sanitiser in an effort to aid the public during the coronavirus outbreak.

Best known for their range of award-winning gins, the popular Kent distillery has used their knowledge of scientific processes to help create much-needed quantities of hand sanitiser during the COVID-19 crisis.

The company’s founders, Andy Reason and Norman Lewis, are former pharmaceutical scientists whose expertise was, up until now, solely used to enhance the flavours of their spirits and create delicious drinks.

However, with the country, and indeed the world, experiencing unprecedented times, they heeded a Government call to assist with the shortage of essential safety products.

Made to World Health Organization standards, after donating the first 200-litres to key workers across the country, Anno’s hand rub is now available to the public, enabling the most vulnerable to access much needed supplies.

The decision to help in this time of need for the country was boosted by the experiences of one of Anno’s owners. “A few years ago, I had a major health scare and it was the doctors and nurses who are putting themselves on the front line now who were brilliant in aiding my recovery back then. This is just a small way in which I can begin to give something back for their wonderful hard work and to show that they’re appreciated,” said Andy, adding; “We’re also making our Hand Rub available to the public for those who need added protection in their everyday lives during these difficult quarantine conditions.”
